Kyushu University Faculty of Design is the creator of Kyudai Innovation Design NEXT (KID NEXT), Japan’s first global hub for 'design education and research.’
Promoting the globalization of education
We collaborate with the world’s top-level design education facilities to conduct the International Collaborative Design Education Program, drawing up international quality assurance and guiding principles for design education.
Training talent for innovation in science and technology
We utilize the results of practical teaching, which uses the design thinking we have cultivated thus far, and affiliated research to train talent for innovation in science and technology.
To achieve our objectives, we establish new methods of design education by including citizen participation in teaching and citizen-led innovation design.
Creating innovation through design thinking
Using design thinking, we will uncover new opportunities for cross-disciplinary research.
We will then return the fruits of design research back into society, creating innovation oriented toward business and industry.
We promote this vision as an interdisciplinary education research movement that builds domestic and international networks, as well as links between universities and society.
KID NEXT functions through organic cooperation between the cooperative organizations, centers, and departments of the Kyushu University Faculty of Design. We are accelerating the creation of design- driven innovation as global design bodies; enterprises and administrative bodies in the Fukuoka-Kyushu region collaborate with Kyushu University facilities and agencies.
At the core of KID NEXT is Design Thinking. Design thinking makes it possible for many people to work, think, and create together. Since the foundation of the Kyushu Institute of Design in 1968, the Kyushu University Faculty of Design has provided artistic sensitivity and ethics, as well as wide-ranging wisdom and logic, spanning the humanities and social sciences to science and technology; accordingly, the School has trained high-level designers able to display the varied and multifaceted intellects required for achieving goals.
Powered by this design thinking approach, KID NEXT will continue to accelerate the cycle of design research, innovation design, social system design, and design management.
