Imajuku Project -From design workshop to social implementation
Since 2016, the Faculty of Design has been running the Design for SDGs in Fukuoka 2019/Global Goals Jam workshop. People from various backgrounds including Kyushu University students, Nishi Ward Office staff, Imajuku residents, and local high school students participated in the workshop held in September 2019. We raised the issue of the year-by-year declining passenger numbers of the “Nagisa” bus, a daily means of transportation in the Imajuku area, and proposed revitalizing the area by focusing on the bus. After the workshop, five students from the Kyushu University Graduate School of Design and five students from School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation and the Faculty of Law in the Ito Campus played a central role in the implementation of the “Imajuku Project”, involving the local population. We attempted to inform a wide range of people of the Imajuku area’s attractions and promoted more engagement with visitors from outside the area.

Ideas generated at the university workshop helped to remind university students and local people of the charms of Imajuku, and to create bonds between the students and the local people. Students from the Faculty of Design recorded all the activities and compiled them in one video in order to draw more attention to the project for next year.
