Kyushu University SDGs Design School forms a part of the educational activities conducted by the Kyushu University Faculty of Design SDGs Design Unit established in 2019. We provide creative educational programs for diverse groups of all ages at local schools and community centers, etc., with the aim of contributing to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals in the design field.
We held a SDGs Design School workshop for 33 students from Year 2 Class 2 at Sendai High School who visited Kyushu University on a field trip to study SDGs. After explaining the activities of the Kyushu University SDGs Design Unit, the students broke up into groups, and each member proposed five ideas based on the theme “What can I do for world peace?” The groups shared and developed their ideas to decide on a single idea each, and then gave a presentation.
Although the time was short, the groups came up with many interesting ideas, making it a worthwhile experience. We hope the experience of approaching SDGs issues through the design thought process will become useful in their future endeavors.
