On November 29, 2020, the Japan-China Design Conference, which had been scheduled to be held in Fukuoka in February of the same year but had to be postponed to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, was held at the Design Common, a learning support facility at Kyushu University’s Ohashi Campus. At the opening of the symposium, Prof. Masahiro Kiyosumi, Director of the Center for Future Design Studies, expressed his desire to create a new field of design through collaboration between universities involved in design education in Japan and China and to provide a forum for exploring the possibilities of future research and education. Mr. Masakazu Tani, Vice President of Kyushu University, opened the session by saying that the essence of design is how to create new values in the changing social situation that we are facing due to the pandemic.
