Design Across Cultures – Joint Industry-Academic Project with MediaLAB Amsterdam
Design Across Cultures is an interdisciplinary, international, industry-academic collaborative PBL design project between Kyushu University’s Faculty of Design and MediaLAB Amsterdam at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.
The project is run over a five-month period, with a student exchange enabling participants to form mixed teams at both universities in Fukuoka (Japan) and Amsterdam (Netherlands). By setting a uniform project theme and exploring the varying processes and design outcomes that arise, the program also provides an educational insight into design across cultures.
Through a ‘design sprint’ process participants quickly create design products in a short time, in addition to improving design accuracy and deep insight. The project process is recorded using a specialized application known as SCREAM, and published on the website.
