Afterword
From the afterword of Is Philosophy Essential to Design?
This book is a collection of several discussions taking the form of independently written works. In Europe and America, basic design theory is widely debated, and many essays and books were published on the subject. However, there were not many attempts to discuss design epistemology and ontology in relation to philosophy directly. In Japan, design has a history of being introduced to people as a practical art or an engineering skill. Hence, the “philosophy of design” is still unknown territory. As such, this book hopes to serve as a starter for full-scale discussions.
