Kyushu University Biolab won the Bronze Award at the KUKAN DESIGN AWARD

Kyushu University Biolab won the Bronze Prize (Public Welfare/ Communication Space Category) at the KUKAN DESIGN AWARD, Japan’s largest spatial design award.
Kyushu University Biolab is a new facility established mainly for research on design and artistic expression using living things. It is anchored by Associate Professor Kazuhiro Jo, Associate Professor Hiroshi Ito, Associate Professor Chihiro Hiramatsu, Assistant Professor Yuki Morimoto and Assistant Professor Tokushu Inamura. The interior of the former student cafeteria was converted into a lab, designed by Masaaki Iwamoto Lab with the master students participating in the design.
The KUKAN DESIGN AWARD is a design award newly established by the Japan Design Space Association (DSA) and the Japan Commercial Environmental Design Association (JCD) (total of 1,100 entries in 2019). In addition, “TRIAXIS SUMA KAIGAN”, also designed by Assistant Professor Masaaki Iwamoto won a Gold Prize in the Food Space category. Our graduated student from the Department of Environmental Design, Sho Sasaki of INTERMEDIA, won a Bronze Prize in the Office Space Category for his design “reinterpret of the foundation”.
