The Future of Design x Business x Entrepreneurship Seminar and Symposium: “Thinking about the Future of Design x Business x Entrepreneurship”
Society expects design is not limited to simple or designed outcomes but has transformed into the realm of services and mechanisms.
To respond to such changes in society and design, the Faculty o Design, Kyushu University, the Kyushu University Business School (QBS), and the Robert T. Huang Entrepreneurship Center of Kyushu University (QREC) have been working together for the past three years to develop a new educational program that integrates design studies with business management and entrepreneurship education.
Through a series of four on-campus seminars held in FY2020, we explored the possibilities of collaboration between these three fields from various perspectives.
The theme of the first seminar was “How to connect in the age of With Corona,” and we invited Keita Takizawa, a design start-up, to explore the possibilities of online problem solving and communication.
In the second seminar, we discussed the following two topics with three Design Strategy majors who are active in society. What is the meaning of studying design strategy? And “What kind of workplaces can we utilize this power? And “What is the purpose of learning design strategy?
In the third seminar, we explored the possibilities of a new society based on the SDGs, which have a significant impact on the global marketplace through initiatives in design, education, and business.
In the fourth seminar, we invited Professor Eizo Okada of Kyoto Institute of Technology and Associate Professor Tetsuaki Baba of Tokyo Metropolitan University to learn from the efforts of other national and public design universities and discuss the ideal form of design education that integrates business.
At the symposium held on March 5, 2021, we discussed the necessity of integrating the three areas of “design, business, and entrepreneurship” in innovation creation, and the significance of co-creation while mixing diverse people. Faculty members from the three departments working on developing a business-integrated design education program led the discussion together with corporate participants.
Videos of the 2nd and 4th seminars and symposiums are posted on the following Youtube channel of the Faculty of Art and Design, Kyushu University.
We hope that students, professionals, companies, and organizations interested in education that integrates design, business, and entrepreneurship will enjoy watching these videos.
