Kyushu University and Aalto University "Game Design Workshop"
Friday, January 25 – Saturday, January 26, 2019
The two-day Game Design Workshop was held with invited guest Professor Miikka Junnila, a leading expert in game design education from Aalto University in Finland.
Through lectures and group work, participants engaged in experience-based learning about the basics of game production. Rather than the “design-ness” of games, they learned about “game-ness” and its design, including what games are, what game design is, and chance and skill.
In group work, after dividing into four teams and creating prototypes of board games, participants conducted test play and evaluation of each other’s games. The test play was watched not only by players but by all participants, and opinions were actively exchanged in a fun and laugh-filled atmosphere.
Professor Junnila has held the workshop in several places in Europe; the marked the first time in Asia. With gratitude for the valuable opportunity, we will continue to deepen our cooperative relationship and partnership with Aalto University.
