Kyushu University x Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences Joint Project "Creative Science Journey" (Design Across Cultures)

In a joint project with Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Digital Society School (DSS), we carried out a design project set in the Fukuoka City Science Museum.

A global team was assembled. It comprised of two students from Kyushu University, two students from Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, and one student from the University of Technology of Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM) in France. They worked on the project for five months.

The theme was “Design Experience and Social Cohesion at the Science Museum”, focusing on table science at the Fukuoka City Science Museum, and planning and proposing new ideas.

The team conducted field surveys and interviews at the Science Center and discussions with science communication experts. Then they devised a new table science plan, conducted a user test with the primary school children and refined their idea.

Finally, the table science plan was introduced, and it was well-received by the Fukuoka City Science Museum. As a result, it was decided that the program would continue in the next fiscal year.

The group also presented and exhibited their outcomes at Kyushu University and a remote presentation to the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. They have also shared the process of working in a team and learning from each other with different cultural background. At the presentation at Kyushu University, about 20 people attended. A lively discussion followed after the presentation.

This project was one of the Global Design Project class at Kyushu University’s Global Design Education and Research Center Project.
