Redesign of Society – Joint research project with Aalto University (Finland)

Kyushu University has established an international academic collaboration with the Media Lab of Aalto University, Finland. These classes, which started in 2014, consist of projects on the same theme running concurrently in Japan and Finland.

The major theme of the projects is ‘Redesign of Society’. Students consider their ideal society (utopia) some 25 years from now, when today’s children have become adults and the students themselves are their parents’ age, and experiment with various design methods to turn these ideals into reality.

The Collaborative Global PBL Training Program with Aalto University is offered simultaneously at the Faculty of Design and Robert T. Huang Entrepreneurship Center of Kyushu University (QREC), bringing together students from various disciplines throughout the university. It aims to cultivate the ability to independently discover social issues and utilize the specializations of each team member to devise solutions to these. With the final results presentation held at Aalto University, the program also helps to develop an international perspective through discussion and interaction with the university’s multinational staff and students.

This program received assistance from the EDGE program (Enhancing Development of Global Entrepreneur Program) run by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
