Global Design Project - Joint classes with Cologne University of Applied Sciences
Ten students from the Köln International School of Design (KISD) at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences (Germany) joined ten Kyushu University graduates and 3rd/4th-year undergraduates in collaborative project classes to tackle the theme of ‘Micro Mobility’. The project was carried out in groups, with students from various design fields and nationalities – including Germany, Japan, Finland, Brazil, Mexico, China, Taiwan, Russia, and Kenya – collaborating in mixed teams of around three members.
The course consisted of two, week-long sessions in Germany and Japan, followed by a presentation of their results. At the first session, each team considered the direction of their design based on field research at supermarkets, airports, kindergartens, and homes in Cologne. The second session included more focused field research in Fukuoka, with the teams creating specific images for proposal. Students utilized the Ohashi Campus workshop to develop and manually create their designs, completing their design proposals through trial and error. The students communicated not only in words but through the pictures and items they created, and learned about construction processes.
