Global Design Project Ⅳ

A joint class between the School of Design and the Graduate School of Design, Kyushu University, and the School of Architecture and Fine Art, Dalian University of Technology, was held online at Kyushu University’s Ohashi Campus and Dalian University of Technology using a remote communication system. Three faculty members, six graduate students, eleven undergraduate students from Kyushu University, three faculty members, eight graduate students, and eight undergraduate students from Dalian University of Technology participated in the class. In this class, under the theme of “Design for Enjoying Entertainment under Corona Disasters,” students proposed designs for services and products for enjoying entertainment for various targets, such as sports games, weddings, cherry blossom viewing, and zoos.

・October 23 (Fri): Field survey (BOSS E・ZO FUKUOKA, PayPay Dome, etc.)
・November 8 (Sun): Mid-term presentation
・December 19 (Sat): Final presentation

Until the year before last, we used Skype as our remote communication system. Still, with Zoom and equipment such as 360-degree cameras, we can now more easily conduct remote collaborative classes. By further improving our know-how, we will achieve more active international collaborative classes in the With & Beyond Corona era. In addition, the fact that we had a shared global understanding of the issue of the corona disaster made it easier for students with different cultural backgrounds to communicate with each other and deepened the content of our discussions, which will help set future themes.
We are planning to hold a joint class with Dalian University of Technology again in 2021 and are currently discussing the theme and timing of the class. This year, we would like to use the experience gained this time to conduct mainly remote classes and, depending on the situation of the new coronary infection, hold interim and final presentations face-to-face if possible.
