Introduction video of Kyushu University, School of Design

Since its establishment in 1968 as Japan’s first center for design education (at that time, Kyushu Institute of Design), the School of Design, Kyushu University has developed into an educational and research institution that continues to lead the field of design.

In 2020, a new design education program will be launched through reorganization, introducing a flexible and diverse educational program that can respond to new social issues. This program is based on one department and five courses: the “Environmental Design Course,” where students can study the three fields of architecture, urbanism, and landscape architecture; the “Industrial Design Course,” which fosters designers and researchers who create from the perspective of consumers, taking into account the connection with society and human characteristics; the “Design Futures course,” which is based on the philosophy of being challenging and stepping into new design fields ; the “Media Design Course,” which teaches students how to use various media to connect and communicate with people; and the “Acoustic Design Course,” which trains acoustic engineers and researchers with keen sensibilities and advanced knowledge of sound.

In 2021, we produced an introductory video that outlines these five courses. In addition to the introduction of the five courses, the video shows the atmosphere of the Kyushu University  Ohashi Campus, the educational and research facilities of the Faculty of Design, messages from the professors, why the current students chose the courses they did, what kind of classes they take, and how they think and work.
