INNOVATION STUDIO FUKUOKA Project4 Overcoming Disasters with Innovation – Towards creating flexible, enduring lifestyles

Innovation Studio Fukuoka is a program driving innovation by local residents for local residents, with the aim of solving social and community issues through new enterprises. The most recent workshop was organized under the theme of ‘Overcoming Disasters with Innovation’, focusing on disaster prevention and recovery.

In 2016, the Kumamoto area was struck by two earthquakes registering the maximum of seven on Japan’s seismic intensity scale. Local issues were compounded by the disaster, and there is a need to reconsider disaster preparation. However, the many serious challenges faced in disaster-prone Japan can also be seen as a great potential for innovation. The Great East Japan Earthquake, for example, gave rise to many innovators who created new regional potential by solving issues faced by disaster-affected areas. Their passion and expertise have since gone beyond those areas and resulted in positive social impacts throughout Japan. We want to launch a similar counteroffensive here in Fukuoka. Together, let’s work to create new projects which overcome disasters and give mankind a bright future through the power of innovation.
