Design in Japan / Understanding Japanese Design 2022

April 13 - June 29, 2022

Launched in 2020, “Design in Japan / Understanding Japanese Design” is a special course in which faculty members from diverse fields of specializations, such as architecture, sound, art, and welfare, introduce Japanese design from their respective points of view. The course provides a rare opportunity to learn about design from a wide variety of disciplines in one place.

This course targets mainly students of the Graduate School of Design and School of Design at Kyushu University. The subject title is “Design in Japan” in the Graduate School, “Understanding Japanese Design” in the School of Design. All lectures are offered in English. The course is part of the “Program for Understanding Japan” and it is open to students from all schools and graduate schools of Kyushu University.

#3 – 6 Excursion “Japanese Architecture”
We will visit the Chikugo region, located in southern Fukuoka prefecture. Highlights of the day include visits to traditional Japanese architecture such as temples, shrines, and houses designated as nationally important cultural properties.
