SDGs Future School Workshop

The Strategic Design Course, Department of Design, Graduate School of Design, Kyushu University held an SDGs Future School Workshop in PBL format.

The SDGs Future School is a joint initiative of the University of Kitakyushu, the Kitakyushu Foundation for the Advancement of Industry, Science and Technology, and Kyushu University. It aims to be an educational program to think together with the general public about the design of a future SDGs society that is carbon neutral.
Specifically, we discussed the complex issues of the SDGs, such as environmental energy and zero-emissions, from the perspective of the general public together with various experts to design “new food, clothing, and housing.”

[Guest Speakers]
Yoshiaki Ushifusa (Professor, Faculty of Economics, the University of Kitakyushu)
He was appointed as a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics, the University of Kitakyushu, in October 2001.
Currently, he is a professor at the Faculty of Economics, the University of Kitakyushu, and a doctor (Economics, Kyoto University).
His areas of expertise include environmental economics, energy economics, behavioral economics, causal inference, and machine learning.
Recently, he has been conducting economic analysis on decarbonized society.

Toshiro Araki (Group Manager, Planning and Community Co-Creation Group, Planning and General Affairs Department, Kitakyushu Branch, Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc.)
Mr. Araki joined Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. in April 1994. Before assuming his current position, Mr. Araki worked mainly in the power transmission and distribution divisions.
In his current position, he is responsible for planning and implementing regional strategies for the Kyushu Electric Group and regional responses to growing businesses in the Kitakyushu Branch area under his jurisdiction.
Areas covered by the Kitakyushu Branch: Eastern part of Fukuoka Prefecture, Kitakyushu City, Onga and Nakama areas, Keichiku area, Chikuho area

The workshop was open to both face-to-face participants and remote participants.
