Collaboration between Leeds Beckett University’s Architecture Department; An Exhibition and Symposium “Catalytic Commoning”

CATALYTIC COMMONING -INFRASTRUCTURE OF SUBTRACTION

A symposium and exhibition with the theme of “commons” was held by the Architecture Department of Leeds Beckett University. One characteristic of this symposium was its unique technique of exploring cities using images. This exhibition introduced “the image composition of new commons” and expanded to an urban context from London to Tokyo. The purpose of this project was to present a role for architectural processes to serve as a new catalyst when the discussion of strategies, materials, categories, and characteristic shapes of cities changes, and this project investigated the new relationship between the diversity of questioning media and the architectural possibilities for building commons. In the symposium, there was a lecture about the “cinematic architecture” technique, an explanation of the works, and a discussion about urban research and practical possibilities.
