Online Seminar "Thinking about Design x Business x Intellectual Property"

The Faculty of Design, Kyushu University, held an online seminar on “Thinking about Design x Business x Intellectual Property.”

This seminar discussed how design and business were connected, what roled intellectual property plays there, and how a comprehensive understanding of design, business, and intellectual property could reveal the reality of business using design.
On the day of the seminar, we invited Mr. Yusuke Fujigaya, who was active as a designer at the Mitsubishi Electric Integrated Design Institute, to talk about the current situation from a designer’s perspective. Mr. Fujigaya is also active as an individual designer. Mr. Fujigaya is also active as a personal designer. He discussed design, business, and intellectual property from his perspective as a personal designer, giving us a different view from corporate design.

The Faculty of Design of Kyushu University plans to reorganize its graduate school in 2022. One of the main features of the reorganization is the realization of a business-integrated design education program that cuts across design, business, and entrepreneurship. The Strategic Design Course in the Department of Design, leading this movement, aims to develop human resources just like Mr. Fujigaya.

Yusuke Fujigaya (Designer, Mitsubishi Electric Integrated Design Institute)
Yusuke Fujigaya joined Mitsubishi Electric Corporation in 2011. He has been involved in the design of the Kirigamine series of air conditioners in Japan and overseas air conditioners in Thailand and China and has won many Good Design Awards. He is also currently in charge of the field of solution design, including new business creation, and is widely involved in development from upstream to downstream.
