Design Initiative for Diversity & Inclusion Kick-off Symposium

In commemoration of the launch of the Design Initiative for Diversity & Inclusion in April 2021, we held a kick-off symposium. We invited unique guests from corporations, communities, and overseas (Norway) to discuss the current status and challenges of social inclusion design and the possibility of designing a “mechanism” for it.

Speakers
Takahiro Hayashi
President, Dentsu Diversity Lab (DDL)
Takahiro Hayash has been involved in all aspects of strategy at Dentsu Inc. including communication strategy, product and service development, and business development. In 2011, he joined D&I as a member of DDL, an internal task force established to oversee strategy and produce a number of projects. In 2017, he launched “Inclusive Marketing®” and is currently promoting it as a new marketing concept based on D&I.

Mariko Hara
Researcher, Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences
Born in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. She is a mother of two children and lives in Norway. Her experience of caring for her grandmother with dementia led her to become involved in music-based dementia care practices and research. D. in Sociology from the University of Exeter, UK (2013). Since moving to Norway, she has been conducting ethnographic research on immigrant musicians and studies on music and wellbeing.

Yasuomi Unno
President, Kyushu Community Research Institute (NPO)
Born in Kumamoto in 1969. Unno is a producer, director, designer, and contemporary artist, and in 2004 he established the Kyushu Community Research Institute, a non-profit organization with the mission of “optimizing design. He is also the co-chairman of Action Town Lab, a non-profit organization, the president of SOL DESIGN INC., a researcher of cultural landscapes for the Agency for Cultural Affairs, and a member of the Hirado City Cultural Landscape Promotion Committee.

Satoshi Miyata
Executive Director, donner le mot
Born in Fukuoka in 1984. He received his master’s degree from the Graduate School of Design, Kyushu University. In 2012, he established the NPO Donelmo, which works on community development for the elderly, aiming to create a cultural society where people can “create their own lives” for the super-aging society. He is also a coordinator for Onojyo City and a part-time lecturer at Fukuoka University (Lifelong Learning Support).

How to hold
ZOOM, an online conference tool, was used. For the kick-off symposium, we provided real-time subtitles using the speech-to-text application UD Talk®️.
