The 6th Study of Design Fundamentals Seminar “The Role of Context in Innovation of Meanings”

Kyushu University hosted the 6th Study of Design Fundamentals Seminar, entitled “The Role of Context in Innovation of Meaning”. For this seminar, we invited Dr Seiichiro Honjo of the Shizuoka University College of Engineering.

Today, as we find ourselves surrounded by an abundance of ideas in the form of solutions, it is increasingly important to discover new meaning for these solutions. Based on the findings of the cross-study of complex science, decolonization, and business science about the mechanism and consequences of learning and communication, the process of realizing “innovation of meaning” known as design-driven innovation, is to understand and capture the individual’s context and the social context.

Seiichiro Honjo
Dr Seiichiro Honjo is Associate Professor in the College of Engineering, Graduate School of Integrated Science and Technology at the Shizuoka University. He was a graduate of the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, for which he was awarded a PhD. Dr Honjo is a researcher with a bottom-up approach studying creativity and context. After working in mathematical science research on the auditory system and decolonisation research, he entered the field of management studies. His papers include The Management of Diversity: Crowdsourcing at Muji (published in Japan Marketing Academy’s Marketing Journal, co-author, 2011) and Theory of Harassment (published in Toyo Bunka, 2009). He has won awards at academic conferences in the fields of mathematical science and management studies.
