"Words and Gender Exhibit" to Commemorate the Publication of the Kyushu University "LGBTs Support Guide"

Kyushu University published its official “LGBTs Support Guide” in July 2020. To commemorate the publication, the Kyushu University Faculty of Design held an online installation exhibit titled “Words and Gender Exhibit” on Saturday, October 3th.

This exhibit examines gender from the perspective of words. As gender is a concept in which philosophy, politics, biology, medicine, society, ethics, history, and more intricately intertwine , it is not an easy matter to consider.

We have attempted to express the complicated matter of gender in the exhibit of many approaches toward an exhibit on gender, we selected the approach of words. People make words, and words make people.

Words can be seen as mirroring the values of people in an era. Among the words you regularly happen to hear and use are many related to gender. We simply want to make you aware of these. How to take those words and what to consider from there onward is up to you. We hope that this exhibit will provide you with an opportunity to consider the “gender” that surrounds you.

As a symposium to commemorate the publication of the Kyushu University “LGBTs Support Guide,” the event “Design for LGBTs and an Inclusive Society” will be held concurrently on October 3, 2020.
